Every guest arrives with a list — Magens Bay, the St. John ferry, Drunk Bay, the Skyride. The lists are good (we wrote half of them into our travel guide). But the day people talk about at checkout is almost always the one where the list stayed on the counter. This is that day, hour by hour, the way we actually do it. We named the whole brand after it.
6:45am — coffee facing east
The trades are quietest at dawn and the water at Sapphire goes to glass. Coffee on the balcony, watching the ferries start their runs to St. John. Nobody has said a word yet. This is the entire morning agenda.
8:00am — the reef, before anyone
Snorkel gear from the closet, straight off the beach. Morning is when the reef between the point and the marina does its best work: rays gliding the sand flats, a turtle if you're patient, parrotfish crunching audibly on coral. Forty-five minutes, back before the beach chairs fill.
10:00am — the beach-chair hours
The photo above is the itinerary. Tent up, chairs angled, book open, cooler within reach. The bananaquits will investigate your snacks; this is the day's only conflict. Swim when hot, read when dry, repeat until hungry.
1:00pm — Red Hook for lunch
Six minutes to fish tacos and a cold Presidente at the marina, where the only urgency is the ferry schedule board — and today, it isn't yours. Grocery stop on the way home for whatever dinner wants to be.
3:30pm — the deck, the nap, the pool
Back at the villa, the afternoon splits by temperament: pool people to the pool, nap people to the AC, deck people to the seaview at Mahogany where the clouds put on their show over the green hills and the far islands. All three factions report high satisfaction.
6:30pm — grill and a sunset
Whatever the grocery run produced, grilled, eaten outside. The sun drops behind the island around seven and the sky does the full production number — pink to violet to a spray of stars you cannot see from a city. Someone says "we should do nothing again tomorrow." Motion carries.
The point
You can fly four hours from the East Coast and spend the week performing tourism, or you can spend at least one day doing what the latitude is for.
